  Accommodation

Omalo : Traditional house renewed with European toilets and showers located in the heart of the Tusheti national park at 2000m high.

Gogrulta : Traditional house without shower and only Georgian toilets.

On the way: in our tent (VAUDE), 2 per tent.

Tbilissi : Hotel, double room with breakfast, 2 per room.

Theme

Discovery of the Georgian culture heritage, the tushi’s way of live, their old manners and customs, the amazing landscapes. But the most impressive is the authenticity and the atmosphere you can have in this region.

Meals*

Breakfast: Tee, coffee, milk, cheese, jams, honey, butter, bread, eggs, fruits.

Picnic: vegetables cooked or not, bread, cheese, fish or chicken or meat,

fruits, tchoutchrelas and others.

Diner : tushi specialities : kotori (khatchapuri), khinkali, kaourma, khavitsi (cheese fondue) et others georgian specialities like adjabsandali, lamb, shashliks, …. And house wine.



*All the products are organics and coming from the local production.

  Day 1

01.09.08

Meeting point at 9.30am at your hotel in Tbilissi.

We go to David Gareja : It is a cave dweller city. A monastery has been built in the 6th century at the bottom of these caves. You can admire some beautiful frescoes in the caves, which overhang some cliffs located at the Azerbaijan border. The monastery is still working. Some monks are living there.

Then we go to Lalisruri, a small village located at the foot of the Caucasian Mountains.

We have a diner and a overnight in a guesthouse.

  Day 2

Breakfast.

Visit of Alaverdi: this cathedral has been set up in the 6th c. and re built in the 11th century, then “White George’, a church dedicated to saint George. Then we drive to Telavi, main town of the Kakheti region. Visit of the public market and the castle built by the last king of Georgia.

We have a picnic and go on to Shuamta, a church from the 6-7th century where many frescoes remain and a female monastery dating from the 16th century stands hereby. Then we visit Ikalto academy where Shota Rustaveli, famous writer in the 12th century studied. On our way back through Pshaveli, if time remains, we can visit 2 small churches, hide from the road and known only from the local people.

Day 3

4WD transfer (Land Rover Defender) until Omalo. Beautiful landscapes on the Kakheti and Tusheti regions. Ride over the ‘Abano’ Pass, 2926m high. We arrive in Omalo in the end of the afternoon.

Diner and overnight in our house in Omalo, located in the heart of the Tusheti National Park at 2000m high.

Day 4

Ride around 5 hours to Gogrulta through Iliurta. Gogrulta is one of the most beautiful villages in the Tusheti region. In the contrary of Omalo and Shenako, only few families live here. It is a secluded place where you can observe some very old traditions, way of life and working. Gogrulta is located at the top of a small summit which offers some very nice panoramas. Spend the evening with the family where you can assist (if you wish) the Tushi in milking the cows and producing some butter.

Diner and overnight in our house (traditional tushi house, nothing more).

Day 5

Take part in the process of sheep cheese’s production. For that you have to stand up very early and you can see the very old way of production like your ancestors did.

Let’s ride until Alazanis Tavi by some beautiful crests. We set up our camp by a river. You can have a bathe if you are not cold-blooded.

Day 6

Ride in and by the river up in the valley. We visit on the way shepherd huts. Than we climb up a pass around 3000m.

We set up the camp close to some small lakes.

Day 7

Ride on some crests among some wild landscapes. We have some outsanding views on the 5000m summits nearby.

We set up the cam clothe to a pass.

Day 8

We ride until Chatili that we reach in the end of the afternoon

Built from the 12th c. Chatili presents a unique architecture with its fortified houses.

We install our camp nearby.

Day 9

We ride up the Andaki valley. We see some curiosities along the way. (Cemetery, sacred places..) and trek through some villages.

We overnight near a small village before the Azunta pass.

Day 10

We ride up Azunta pass at 3431m high, border between the Khevsureti and Tusheti regions.

We go down and set up the camp below at around 2800m high.

Day 11

We leave the wildness part of the trip to visit a succession of villages in the Pirikiti valley. We go through Girevi, Parsma and set up the camp by a river in Dartlo which belongs to the UNESCO world heritage.

Day 12

We ride until Omalo trhough Mirgvella pass.

We reach Omalo in the end of the afternoon.

Have a diner and overnight in a typical house.

Day 13

We go back Lalisruri.

We reach lalisruri in the end of the afternoon.

We have a diner with the local people

Day 14

We drive back to Tbilissi.

On the way we visit Gremi and Nekresi. The first one is church within we can admire some beautiful frescoes. Nekresi is a religious complex in which we can see a very old church from the 4th c.

We reach Tbilissi in the middle of the afternoon and set down at your hostel.

We drive you back at the airport.

* In Georgia, there is no insurance which is covering our activities. That's why we are asking a full insurance (repatriation etc..) and a responsibility discharge (in case of accident) which should be written and signed in the mother tongue of the participant.
The luggage will be brought in some precarious conditions. We are also not responsible for some damages which can occur.
